Agile Bombs – DRPs Are an Anti-Pattern

DRPs, or Demo, Retro and Planning, all-in-one meetings are becoming more common as a “solution” to Scrum team retrospective actions of “reducing meetings”.   These are an anti-pattern for a number of reasons, such as:

  1. A Demo shortchanges the team of the feedback from attendees.  The goal of the Sprint Review is to gather feedback, not just show a demo.
  2. A Planning session right after the demo does not provide adequate time to adjust the product backlog using the feedback gathered in the Sprint Review.  See above.
